Writer's picture: J. Marquice MillerJ. Marquice Miller

Greetings, Coyote Families.

This was a great and full week. This week, we celebrated 100 days of great connections and instruction, and the students pushed the celebration with over 100 pictures of Mr. Miller throughout the school! Thank you all for participating in a very successful Coyote Connections! We also had several wonderful Project Celebrations. With 3 more to go (Kinder, 4th grade, and 6th grade), we are off to a great start to Trimester 3!

ACS IN ACTION

CLOTHING PANTRY

We are still in need of boys’ and girls’ pants of all sizes.  Please bring items to the front office.  Thank you for your generosity.

COYOTE CAFE

The Coyote Cafe will be open every Thursday during the morning carline.  All items are $1, and the money earned goes to our ACS Food Pantry.  Stop by the gym for a yummy treat to benefit a good cause. We will be selling flavored water, granola bars, fruit snacks, applesauce, crackers, and other goodies. All items will cost $1.00 and the proceeds will help the ACS Food Pantry. The Coyote Cafe will be open every Thursday morning until the end of April. Please stop by the gym this Thursday for a yummy treat!

CARLINE UPDATES & CHANGES

Here are a few reminders about KIDaccount, our new Carline App:

KINDERGARTEN FOOD DRIVE

3RD ANNUAL COYOTE CONNECTIONS

Coyote Connections was an enormous success. We started with a parent panel. It featured parents, the PTO board, and staff members who are also ACS parents. They discussed numerous subjects, including:

SEL

Project Celebrations

Morning Meeting and Advisory

Advanced learners and students with learning disabilities.

Teachers and staff worked all week to prepare slides for presentations and complete rounds of campus cleanup.

ACS Tours (102 Participants!!! 😀)

The leadership team provided background on ACS.

We then separated into three groups:

K-4 Parents Who just wanted to explore the main building.

5-8 Parents who mainly wanted to view the cottages and the new gym.

New family wanted a full tour of all four buildings.

During the Tours, families were able to see presentations from our current classroom teachers, which included curriculum updates and advice for parents to help with EOY and EOG preparation at home.

PTO sold pizza.

Genesis Athletics marketed ACS Gear and gave new families 'early bird' discounts on before and after school care.

To summarize, the third Coyote Connections was a huge success!

ACS WINTER SPORTS UPDATE!

Winter Sports Closeout Winter Sports uniforms were due on 2/12/25. Basketball Uniforms should have been submitted to Coach Long and Cheer Uniforms to Coach W for count, and winter sports storage. At this time there are still uniforms that have not been submitted. Please contact Coach Long dlong@alamancecommunityschool.net or Coach W awelgehausen@alamancecommunityschool.net to provide an update of your athletes uniform submission.

Unreturned athletics uniforms can incur a fee (retail value of each custom acs winter sport uniform) on student accounts and impact athletes ability to participate in Spring Sports or receive Sports Awards at ACS Sports Banquet in May (Date TBA).

We appreciate your understanding and support during this winter Sports Season!

Spring Sports 2025

Dead Period: February 17th-21st: ( No Athletics )

Spring Sports Tryouts: February 24- 28: ( Spring Athletics Begins)

Spring Sports is just around the corner, and we are preparing for our season with our Spring Sports Interest Meetings.

Co-Ed middle school golf will hold their interest meeting on Monday February 17th, 2025, at 5:30 pm. Co-Ed Golf Interest Meeting Link: meet.google.com/agm-hdai-ekd

Girls Soccer will hold their interest meeting on Tuesday February 18th, 2025, at 5:30 pm. Girls Soccer Interest Meeting Link:  meeting flyer

During Spring Sports interest meetings families and prospective student-athletes will have an opportunity to meet Coaches and AD to learn about expectations and all needed information for Spring Sports tryouts. As a reminder, tryouts for athletics at ACS are for athletes in grades 6th & 7th. Student-athletes must have an active physical on file with the athletic department. If your student-athletes have played a fall, or winter sport they are cleared for Spring Sports Tryouts. If your student-athletes are new to ACS or have not played a sport they would need a physical examination by a primary care physician and a signed concussion form to try out for teams.

School Communications - How to Receive Texts/Phone Calls and Emails from ACS

Last September, we completed the transition to a new school communication software called SchoolMessenger. This change is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the way we communicate with you and ensure that you receive timely and accurate information about school news, events and your child's education.

The new software offers several improved features, including:

SchoolMessenger App: Receive instant notifications about school events and important announcements.

Custom Notification Preferences: The SchoolMessenger app also allows you to manage your notification preferences for various types of communications including General, Emergency, Attendance and more.

SMS Opt-In: Opt-In to receive text messages by sending a quick text message to our school’s short code.

To help you navigate this transition, we have linked a few resources:

SMS Text Opt-In Flyer: Opt-In to receive texts from SchoolMessenger using the QR code or short code text instructions in this flyer.

SchoolMessenger App Parent User Guide: The SchoolMessenger app allows schools and school districts to inform guardians and students about school related emergencies, school closures, attendance or other school-related issues. The SchoolMessenger app sends and receives notifications straight to mobile devices or desktops.

To download the app, please visit your app store for iOS or Android.

Important: If you already have an email address that the school has on record, use this email address when you sign up for your account in the app.

Please note: We will not be implementing Groups, Teacher Messaging nor Teacher-Created Groups at this time.

VOLUNTEERING

We have loved having so many volunteers in the classroom! Thank you for supporting our students and staff!

Volunteerism at our school is a way for you, parents and guardians, to learn more about ACS, engage in a positive way with your child’s teachers, and witness firsthand the hard work and dedication that all our staff - teachers, assistants, support staff, and administrators demonstrate each and every day.

It is also a way to support your student and other students by assisting with workstations or a small group, helping with clerical tasks or lunch, and/or something as simple as reading a book to the class. You do not have to be an educator to volunteer, and everyone is welcome!  Please click on the ACS Volunteer Form Link below to find ways that you can volunteer to help support our school!  https://forms.gle/6iPiTAYNhm14BezV6

WE ARE HIRING! Looking to build the team!

We are in search of Elementary, Middle and EC Team members for ACS! If you or someone you know would be a good fit for ACS, please apply through our website under the ‘Employment’ tab (see link below) and email a resume to Mr. Miller at jmarqmiller@alamancecommunityschool.net
