ACS Weekly Newsletter 2/11/24

Updated: Feb 19

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear ACS Families & Staff,

We have over 100 days of school under our belt and have wrapped up our 2nd trimester. Teachers will be conducting conferences and working on report cards. This will be the second time using Power School for report cards. We anticipate it will be smoother, having worked on some of the kinks from the first trimester. Assuming that's the case, our target date range for sending report cards to families is between Friday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 27.

With one trimester remaining, we want to finish the year strong and we need your help! Below are some academic competencies to highlight with your child at home. Talk through them together and check in regularly to see how they are progressing in these areas:

Academic Competencies

  • Academic Mindset: Positive mindset (I belong here in this learning community, my efforts help me to get better, I can succeed at my learning, and I see the value of the work that I’m doing)

  • Perseverance: Ability to stick with something that might be difficult, completing in timely manner, working through bumps in road, start and see the task all the way through

  • Learning Strategies: Anything they are doing to help them with their learning, stopping to think while reading, self correcting, setting goals, managing time

  • Academic Behaviors: Regular attendance, arriving ready to work, paying attention, participating, taking the time outside of school to practice or additional learning to help them grow within school

Here are a few highlights from the week:

  •  Teachers across all grade levels are incorporating meaningful lessons and activities to celebrate Black History Month.

  • Kindergarteners and 1st graders celebrated the 100th day of school!

  •  3rd graders have been working on their prototypes and marketing strategies for their businesses which will be presented during the next project celebration.

  • 5th and 6th graders had a volleyball scrimmage to demonstrate the skills they learned with Coach Long.

  • In PE, students are learning basketball skills such as different types of passes and how to shoot the ball. March Madness, here we come!

Best,

Jamie Miller, Principal
