ACS Weekly Newsletter 5/19/24

MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR

Dear ACS Families,

It’s hard to believe that there are only 5 days left of the 2023-24 school year before the summer break! The last day of school for students is Friday, May 24 and we will dismiss at 11:45.

We have already begun to plan for a great 2024-25 school year! In June, we will send out more information about the first day of school on Tuesday, August 13, K - 7th Grade Supply Lists, Kindergarten Staggered Start details, the dates and times for our August Open House events, and much more!

Before our students begin their summer break, I wanted to share a website of activities that can be used for at-home learning this summer. The Birth-Preschool activities align to NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development and the K-2nd Grade activities align to NC Standards. Summer At Home Learning Activity Website  There is also a one-page document that includes quick links to the website above, Literacy at Home, and tips for a successful summer full of literacy! Summer Literacy Tips

Also, on the ACS Website under the Resources tab, you will find some excellent summer resources for literacy and math.

I hope all students and staff enjoy our final week of school and that everyone has a wonderful, restful, and safe summer!

Best,

Leslie

STUDENT SERVICES (Mr. Tribotte and Mrs. Gittens)

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

“Mental health is wealth, especially during Mental Health Awareness Month, which is celebrated in May. The stigma around mental health and treatment has long existed, even though this has started to change. Still, people hesitate to seek help or even talk about it with their loved ones for fear of being judged and facing unnecessary backlash. Simple logic dictates that if we are hurt anywhere, we must seek treatment to get better. This applies to both our mental- and physical well-being.” -National Today

Please read the May is Mental Health Awareness Month document to learn ways that you & your family can take part in ending mental health bias and discrimination, and help build a healthy nation that celebrates children's strengths.

ATHLETICS

Families, if you have a rising 6th or 7th grader that wishes to participate in ACS athletics for the 24-25 school year, a physical examination form is required for tryouts and participation. Exams can be scheduled with your primary care physician, or local minute clinics.

Rising 7th Graders: Required Immunizations

Students entering 7th grade are required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines. Please contact your student’s health care provider or the local health department if your child needs those vaccines.

Parents/guardians of students enrolled in 7th grade will be required to provide an updated current proof of vaccination (i.e., Certificate of Immunization from the NC Immunization registry) on or before the first day of school, August 13, 2024.

If proof of vaccination is not provided within 30 calendar days of the first day of school, your child will be excluded from school until a current shot record is provided, as required by law.

Please DO NOT send your immunization certificate to school at this time. You will be asked to provide this  later this spring, during our re-enrollment process for current students.

For more information on required immunizations in NC, please visit: https://immunization.dph.ncdhhs.gov/family/nc_immnz_requirements.htm
